How to Share Files Between Mobile and Computer

Introduction

What will you when using USB cable you are not able to download data from your Mobile to a computer for backup purpose or you need to get your mobile repaired and you are on the verge of loosing all you data because Authorized Service Centers format the mobile every time.

You can save your data on Google Cloud if you have so much space to accommodate all your data (beyond 15 GB default cloud storage) or use a USB adapter to transfer your data to USB drive and then copy it on a PC in parts or use the micro sd card slot to do the same.

What if you do not have any of these available with you. There is a way which is seamless and does not require any add-on device for your Mobile or PC.

You can transfer it via WiFi even without a WiFi router at home, using free software.

Configure and connect your PC with your mobile’s Hot-Spot

  • Configure and enable Mobile Hot-Spot.
  • Connect your PC with your your Mobile’s WiFi Hot-Spot.
  • You can also use another common WiFi and connect your PC and Mobile on same WiFi Network.

  • You will get this screen below. Touch and open the Network Section as below:

  • Touch “View on PC” and you will see screen as below:

  • Now Turn on the View on PC Server. This will make your Mobile an FTP Server on the WiFi HotSpot network you created above.

Visit website “winscp.net” and download compatible WinScp for your computing device.

  • Enter Host Name as IP (in my case 192.168.43.1) of your Mobile Server on ES File Explorer Application
  • Enter Port number as “3721” or whatever you have configured (can be customized) on your mobile
  • Select user name as “Anonymous login” only

  • Communication will be set by WinSCP with your Mobile FTP Server and you will be able to get the folder listing on your computer as below:

  • Right click on desired folder and you will see options like below. Choose appropriately.

  • Click download option and choose the destination folder where you want to download the files.

  • Downloading will start in the folder you mentioned.

  • Do not forget to verify the folder or files you have downloaded.

After copying the required files you can send your mobile for repair 🙂

You can use this method for regular manual backup of your data.

There are other backup solutions available for taking backup passively.
